Ventana. The future of digital canvas.
While digital art has seen an explosion of interest in the last few years, these incredible artworks have mostly been created in public and corporate spaces. The cost, complexity and scale of the digital canvas’s used to show them at their very best, have been unmanageable in the domestic environment.
Venues like the The Sphere, Lightroom, Frameless and Outernet have captured our imaginations about becoming fully surrounded by the experience.
We are now at an inflection point where the digital canvas is entering our homes. More than just a framed canvas, the technology is now available to become digital wallpaper. When the creators of Star Trek imagined the Communicator, they could never have foreseen the role out of the mobile phone across the world. Now, another of their flights of fantasy, the Holo Deck, is about to also become mainstream.
The concept of Tromp l’oeil (Trick of the eye) pioneered by the Greeks and Romans and made popular in the early 19th Century, has found a new and compelling outlet. While interior designers might reel at the idea of giant video screens, thinking of them as a paintable and instantly transformable surface can make for very exciting spaces.
Digital artists are ever more imaginative about how they can create and capture our imaginations. The ability to completely transform a whole wall or room has opened the door to new digital experiences.
MegapixelVR, the creator of the Ventana video tile, have miniaturised the technology required to create scalable and flexible digital canvas’s for the domestic space. The ultra-thin, 300mm square tile allows wall to wall, floor to ceiling digital canvases to be imagined. The image appears as a window that you see though rather than view content.
At Ideaworks, we are excited to be collaborating with Ventana, looking into concepts where the technology and art can be combined to create some truly immersive spaces; endless possibilities. Ventana technology is now installed in our London Experience Centre.
