Proud to be part of the REV Ocean project
Ideaworks are delighted to be working on this fantastic, collaborative project with multi-discipline, as well as multi-national companies.
REV is a 182m ground-breaking expedition yacht being built by Norwegian ship builder Vard. REV is expected to secure the title of the world’s largest research and expedition vessel, both in terms of length and volume. However, there is more to REV than we have come to expect. It’s unique combination of research vessel and luxury Superyacht make it a truly revolutionary build.
The project has a grand ambition. Their vision ‘One Healthy Ocean’ aims to address the urgent need for knowledge and solutions for the world’s marine ecosystems and improve our understanding of the ocean.
The ship will be equipped to be able to research the entire marine ecosystem and will host scientists, researchers and others dedicated to finding solutions for a healthy ocean. 4,000 square metres of on board space will be dedicated to research equating to roughly 40% of REV’s 17,440GT interior. The vessel’s interior is 40% dedicated to research areas, 36% are technical areas and 24% is the yacht.
It’s not every day that we get to work on a project that includes an ROV capable of deploying 6km under the sea, a 30-tonne crane as well as a 35 seat Atmos Cinema.
Ideaworks are designing and installing the AV, IT, lighting and shading control systems as well as developing the creative Lighting design in the exterior and yacht areas. To give an idea of the scale of the systems, they include over 400 Wi-Fi access points, 200 telephones, 8 km of linear LED and over 1,500 downlights! The systems will be controlled by Ideaworks’ Mesh control interface and Tyba Turn room controllers to provide the best end user experience and ease of interaction throughout the vessel.
The work of the REV team is inspiring our own ways of working and we are trying hard to improve our own recycling efforts and reduce our carbon footprint as a company.
We have lots of work to do before the 2021 completion date but are relishing the challenge!

Pete has now been part of the Ideaworks team for over 10 years. Having worked on a number of prestigious large scale projects, he is a highly experienced Project Manager. Now delivering both Marine and Residential projects, Pete’s role is hands on. Overseeing the entirety of the systems we deliver from design through to installation, working closely with our client’s and their design teams.
