"Doing the right thing" has been the Ideaworks mantra since the day I joined over two decades ago, so it seemed only logical to apply that mantra to the community we live in and the environment we all share. We know clients and staff increasingly value doing the right thing too.

It's easy to write about our ambitions, but we're trying to focus on actions instead. Actions that have halved the energy use of systems we design or halved the waste we produce. Actions that include partnering with local schools for training and employment. But we still have so much more to do.

And because we can do so much more together than we can apart, we are proud to be founder members of the PRIME Principles.

Environment

We are being environmentally better

Over the past few years our team of ECO Champions have halved waste, doubled recycling, banned single use plastics in the office and planted trees. They have installed LED lighting through our buildings and our IT infrastructure is new and extremely energy efficient. We use eco suppliers for energy and have a fleet of battery vehicles.

We are ISO14001 accredited and scored a very high 4/5 on impact for this PRIME principle and our ECO team have plans for so many more improvements.

Sustainability

For us and our clients

As we make our operations sustainable, we want our clients to benefit from this too. We focus on reliability and longevity with the components we recommend, rather than consumer products with short life spans. We advise our clients on reducing energy usage through system design and operation. We’re encouraging clients with existing home technologies to make improvements, such as updating ageing lighting systems to energy efficient LED solutions. Introducing sustainable approaches means our clients have systems that use between 40-85% less energy than even just a few years ago.

Community

Be part of something bigger

As we grow, maintaining a sense of community is more important than ever; both our company community and our local communities. From our Training Academy for local children, to donating IT equipment to our local schools. We continue to search for ways we can do more.

Our Lighting team are supporting Noah’s Ark Hospice to create intriguing magical areas for the children. It’s a joy to be able to give back in a way that uses our skills and experience.

Giving Back

Celebrating the compassion of our team

We are immensely proud of the efforts of our employees to support charitable causes. We have recently donated, run, cycled, baked and designed to raise money for over twenty different charities. During COVID, the team spent their time helping out in many ways including manning 3D printers to make eye shields for the NHS, repairing bikes for key workers or manufacturing face masks. Our Directors will be doing the three peaks challenge (now in 2021 due to COVID) in order to raise over £10,000 for the MNDA.

Working Together

A positive force in our industry

We will achieve more together than we could ever hope to accomplish apart. This desire to achieve more led to the founding of PRIME. As a founder member of PRIME we promote responsibility and integrity in the maintenance of our environment. It is a forum for ideas, solutions, challenges and ambitions that go towards accelerating positive change in our environment and community.
