Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Kentish New House combines contemporary design with a strong commitment to sustainability. In collaboration with Turner & Hoskins Architects, Ideaworks contributed to this project by providing lighting design solutions that enhance the home’s architectural features and align with its environmental objectives.

Thoughtful Lighting for a Sustainable Home

The home’s design prioritises natural light and views over the countryside, with a glazed central hall that draws in sunlight throughout the day. To complement this, we developed a lighting scheme that adapts seamlessly to changing light levels, always ensuring a balanced and comfortable environment. Lighting is integrated into the architecture to surprise and delight when it becomes visible at night, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere inside and out.

Being surrounded by beautiful landscapes with meandering views, the landscape and façade are equally important to the interior. It was important that external lighting be minimal to avoid disturbing the view, nature, and light pollution. Each piece of lighting implemented was done with deep consideration to ensure it would create just the right effect.

Energy Efficiency in Focus

All lighting solutions were designed to complement the home’s energy-efficient systems, including ground-source heat pumps and photovoltaic panels. Low-energy LED lighting is carefully designed and circuited to give impact and the right amount of light without wasting energy on excessive and unnecessary illumination.

Kentish New House showcases how thoughtful lighting design can complement sustainable architecture and enhance everyday living. Our contribution focused on creating solutions that integrate seamlessly with the home’s design and environmental priorities.
