New Entertainment Technologies; Enhancing the Onboard Experience

A look at recent developments in display technology and control devices that are improving performance, usability and the onboard experience across superyacht entertainment systems.

At Ideaworks, we work closely with engineers, shipyards and design teams across both new-build and refit projects. Through these collaborations, and our ongoing relationships with manufacturers and distributors, we maintain direct visibility into emerging technologies that can meaningfully improve system performance, usability and, most importantly, the Owner’s experience onboard.

From time to time, it is useful to step back and look at the developments shaping the next generation of onboard systems. Two areas that have seen particularly meaningful progress recently are display technologies and control devices.

Display Technology: Larger, Better, More Accessible

Large-format displays have become significantly more accessible in recent years, making high-quality cinema experiences easier to deliver within superyacht environments.

Samsung’s new 115” display is a good example.

Delivering a cinema-grade experience for under €10,000, it offers approximately 35% more screen area than a 100” display.

The result is a noticeably more immersive viewing experience without the complexity or cost traditionally associated with screens of this size.

For larger installations, digital canvas technologies continue to advance.

Ventana’s latest 0.6mm pixel pitch panels provide exceptional image quality, while improved processing and installation flexibility make them increasingly viable for superyacht cinemas and feature display walls.

These developments allow us to create display environments that combine visual impact with technical efficiency.

Control Devices: Simplicity Meets Flexibility

Control devices are also evolving, with new hardware combining the familiarity of traditional remotes with the flexibility of modern software interfaces.

The AVA Cinema Remote blends tactile buttons with a touchscreen interface, offering users the familiarity of a conventional remote while allowing contextual controls to appear when needed.

Crestron’s new Cevo Remote takes a similar approach to simplicity. Designed in response to Owner feedback, it provides a streamlined user experience inspired by the popularity of Apple TV remotes while remaining fully integrated with the wider control system.

Within an Ideaworks system, devices such as these work alongside Apple, Android and Crestron touchscreens through the ORO platform. This ensures a consistent and intuitive control experience across every zone onboard.

Supporting Technology Upgrades and Refits

As onboard systems age, advances in display technology, control systems and core infrastructure can deliver significant improvements in usability, reliability and long-term serviceability.

Ideaworks supports vessels from 30 metres to over 130 metres with targeted technology upgrades across a range of onboard systems, including:

  • Audiovisual upgrades

  • Control systems

  • Cinemas and digital canvas installations

  • Information technology infrastructure

  • Communications systems

  • Lighting control systems

  • Light fitting upgrades

For owners, captains, and technical teams considering upgrades or planning future works, we are always happy to provide practical guidance based on a vessel’s existing systems and operational requirements.
