Mark Norman Celebrates 30 Years at Ideaworks
In April 2025, Mark Norman celebrated an incredible 30 years at Ideaworks, a journey that spans continents, decades of innovation, and some of the company’s most memorable milestones.
Where it all started
Mark Norman Celebrates 30 Years at Ideaworks with a journey that began far from the world of technology. After graduating from Writtle Agricultural College in 1984, he quickly realised farming wasn’t his future, but technology was. With a strong self-taught background in programming, Mark’s early ventures included writing care-home placement software. He also explored programming languages like BASIC and Turbo Pascal well before home automation was mainstream.
Early Beginnings and First Projects
He met Ideaworks founder Kevin Andrews in the early 1990s and, in 1992, began writing software for one of the company’s first large-scale lighting surveys. His involvement grew from there. By 1993, he was on-site helping install one of the earliest multi-room audio and lighting systems, a revolutionary set-up at the time.
Mark became a core part of the business as it expanded rapidly in the late '90s and early 2000s, helping deliver landmark projects across the UK and eventually around the globe. Mark was at the forefront of the company's most innovative technical work, from motorised TVs and early Crestron touchscreens to the first generation of home cinemas.
Going Global
In 2001, his journey went international, starting with a superyacht survey in the Maldives. Over the next decade, he worked on projects in Singapore, Monaco, New York, Mustique, Dubai, and beyond. During this time, he built a reputation for technical expertise and calm, pragmatic problem-solving.
Shaping Aftercare Services
In 2013, Mark transitioned into leading Ideaworks’ Aftercare division, helping shape the service offering and client experience post-installation. Today, he works closely with the Aftersales team, continuing to drive service excellence and customer satisfaction.
A Legacy of Growth and Dedication
From a company of five people to nearly 190, Mark has seen Ideaworks evolve through every chapter of its growth and played a central role in that story.
What Keeps Him Going
Asked what’s kept him here for three decades, he points to the people. “The camaraderie, the teamwork – that’s what makes this place special. I’ve been lucky to work with some truly brilliant minds, and I still love what I do.”
Here’s to Mark Norman, celebrating 30 Years at Ideaworks, for his contribution, and the future still ahead.
