Becoming Architecture: From Line to Form arrives at the Ideaworks London Experience Centre for London Design Festival
This September, the windows of the Ideaworks London Experience Centre will host Becoming Architecture: From Line to Form, a new installation conceived and created by Interiors With Art for London Design Festival 2026.
Derived from the Luxury Property Forum Window Residency initiative, the installation brings together Interiors With Art and Ideaworks to explore the journey of an architectural idea — from its earliest expression through construction to a fully realised space.
From an Idea to a Finished Space
Spanning the three windows of our Great Portland Street Experience Centre, Becoming Architecture: From Line to Form follows a single architectural element — a column — as it evolves.
Beginning as an abstract wireframe, the installation moves through a space under construction before arriving at a completed interior. Viewed in reverse, the process is undone, taking the finished environment back to the original idea.
Designed and made in-house by Interiors With Art's design and construction teams, the installation celebrates not only the finished result, but the experimentation, materiality and craftsmanship involved in bringing an idea to life.
At its centre, the column is both structural and sculptural — reflecting Interiors With Art's approach as a practice that both designs and builds, and the relationship between creativity and craftsmanship that runs throughout its work.
Shaping the Experience Through Light
Lighting forms an integral part of the installation and its changing narrative.
Working with Interiors With Art, the Ideaworks lighting team developed a bespoke scheme combining task, ambient, and atmospheric lighting to reveal material, texture, and depth at each stage of the installation.
As natural light changes throughout the day, the lighting responds to the different qualities of each window, showing how light can influence how architecture, material and form are perceived.
As Paul Richardson, Associate Director at Ideaworks, explains:
“Lighting shapes the way we perceive architecture, material and form. Our lighting design has been carefully developed to complement Interiors With Art's concept, revealing different qualities of the installation as natural light changes throughout the day.”

Becoming Architecture: From Line to Form will be on display at the Ideaworks London Experience Centre, 206 Great Portland Street, London, throughout London Design Festival this September.
To celebrate the residency, we're opening the doors of the Experience Centre for an evening of drinks, canapés and networking on Wednesday 16 September, from 6–9 pm, with an opportunity to experience the installation and meet the people behind it.
