Crafted Intangibles: Found & Gareth Neal - A Curated Residency by Mayfair Design District

At Ideaworks, we view our London Experience Centre window display not just as a space for presentation but as a platform to foster dialogue between disciplines and ideas. Our most recent residency, Crafted Intangibles, curated by Mayfair Design District, brings that ethos to life with a compelling collaboration between digital storytellers Found and sculptural artist Gareth Neal.

This partnership, supported by Ideaworks as an innovation partner, explores the intersection of creativity, craft, and technology. The resulting installation invites audiences to experience the intangible forces of light, memory, materiality, and emotion, which shape our perception and connection with the world around us.

A Dialogue Between Disciplines

The curatorial concept of Crafted Intangibles was simple but profound. It brought together two contrasting practices, digital and physical, that share a deep sensitivity to form, process, and meaning.

At the core of the installation is Found’s Invisible series, a body of connected digital artworks developed through Neuroscientific insights. These works visualise emotional undercurrents in digital form, transforming data into immersive, sensory experiences. By making the invisible visible, they explore how sensation, feeling, and emotion might take shape, and how that can unlock deeper human connection.

Responding in kind is the work of Gareth Neal, whose sculptural language fuses traditional craftsmanship with contemporary digital fabrication. Works such as the Hack Chair Series and Digitally Woven resonate with Found’s formal aesthetics but add a layer of physicality, including material texture, weight, and the passage of time. Neal’s pieces carry the trace of both the maker’s hand and machine precision. They suggest that emotional depth is not exclusive to the digital realm.

Together, these works invite viewers to slow down, to not just look, but to feel. They mark the convergence of sculpture and light, hand and code, presence and perception.

An Evening of Reflection and Exchange

Last week, we hosted an intimate event at the Experience Centre to celebrate this collaboration. Guests from across the creative, design, and technology communities gathered for networking drinks and an insightful panel discussion that explored the ideas behind the work.

Moderated by James Malcolm Green, co-founder of Mayfair Design District, the panel brought together Found’s Executive Creative Director, Clayton Wellham, and Gareth Neal, Founder of his eponymous studio, Gareth Neal, for a candid conversation about process, influence, and the invisible threads that drive their respective practices.

From the emotional potential of digital tools to the enduring resonance of traditional craft, the discussion revealed a shared commitment to curiosity, experimentation, and storytelling. Perhaps most compelling was the exploration of what is missing in today’s creative discourse: time, patience, and a willingness to embrace the unknown.

Continuing the Conversation

At Ideaworks, we are proud to support platforms that champion boundary-pushing creativity. This residency reaffirms our belief that technology is not simply about functionality. It is a language, a material, a way of interpreting the world.

We thank James and Anne-Laure at Mayfair Design District for their curatorial vision, Found and Gareth Neal for their inspiring work, and all our guests who joined the conversation. The installation remains on view for a limited time. Come see for yourself. The exhibition will run until September 30th.
